Boucher & James, Inc. Conducts Visioning Meeting for
Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County

On January 25, 2017, Boucher & James, Inc.’s Landscape Architecture/Planning Staff and the Upper Saucon Township Sustainable Parks Committee held a Visioning Meeting to solicit the input of Township residents.  More than 50 community members attended, including committee members, board members, and Environmental Advisory Council members, as well as people from all walks of life with ages ranging from high school students to senior citizens. The Nominative Group Technique was used to solicit input, in which a series of questions were asked such as what residents envision for the new parks, what they want to be preserved, what they want to see changed, and what are their concerns.  All attendees were given the opportunity to respond to each of the questions without interruption, followed by residents voting on the answers. This visioning technique is very effective in helping community leaders and planners determine trends in the needs and desires of a community, as well as uncover unique concerns and needs. With this technique, each person at the meeting was able to have a voice about the Township’s new parks. All responses including the number of votes received will be documented in a final Master Site Development Plan report, which will be made public and available to the community. Responses from this meeting will be instrumental in assisting and guiding the Sustainable Parks Committee and Boucher & James, Inc. in planning new parks for the community.
